Embracing Elegance in the Garad Saree on Durga Puja

People throughout India have already begun celebrating Navratri and Diwali. But native and immigrant Bengalis will swarm to pandals to commemorate Durga puja with their loved ones. Durga puja, the largest festival in West Bengal and the largest cultural extravaganza for Bengalis, is also an opportunity to make a truly remarkable fashion statement.

Bengalis throughout the nation are already on a purchasing spree, stocking up on the most popular Durga puja sarees. Due to the fact that it is a community festival, everyone is dressed to the nines. Festivities include social visits, pandal hopping, home ceremonies, and dining out, and you must appear your most fabulous for each of these events.

The majority of Bengali women choose to don traditional attire during the four-day celebration. The on-screen portrayal of Durga Puja would lead any non-Bengali to assume that white tant or Garad sarees with a deep red border are the only Bengali fashion staple worn during the festival. However, the Navaratri Collections provide Bengali women with an abundance of fashionable options.

Remember that Durga puja is a celebration of women's strength and femininity, so channel your inner deity and prepare to celebrate with grace and confidence.

Recent bollywood film - Rocky & Rani ki prem kahani showed the importance of durga puja in the movie and the way everyone wore traditional sarees and depicted the values and traditions people still follow in Bengal and other places of India.

Set against the backdrop of Durga Puja, the song's two protagonists are attired in red and look utterly stunning. Alia wore a traditional red saree to the event. The world is aware of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's impeccable dancing abilities. However, for Dhindhora Baje Re, they went all out with Ranveer, performing classical dance to impress his admirers.

All about Durga Puja and Rituals

Durga Puja is a festival that is held in some parts of India on the last day of Navaratri to honour the victory of good over evil. From October 20th to October 24th, 2023, the event will take place. Bengalis enjoy it for six days, from Mahalaya to Shashthi to Maha Saptami to Maha Ashtami to Maha Navami to Vijayadashami.

People perform age-old rituals and pray all day to welcome Goddess Durga into their houses. Believers also dress up in beautiful ethnic costumes and adorn their homes to commemorate Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura, the Buffalo monster. Ladies spend hours getting the Christmas appearance just right, bringing the finest of their collections to the forefront. It can also be intimidating because a minimum of five looks must be curated for this festival.

People nowadays, regardless of gender, wear jeans, tees, shirts and trousers due to the daily hustle. Fashion is changing to meet the needs of the period. As a result, wearing traditional clothing is limited to celebrations and special events. During the Puja, Bengalis and even non-Bengalis buy and plan to wear various costumes every day. People may change over time to meet the needs of the times, yet their roots remain intact. Every person's lifestyle has been altered in some way by the modern world.

Ashtami, the festival's eighth day, is incomplete without a saree and a panjabi kurta. It might be anyone of any age; for Ashtami, every female purchases a saree and every male purchases a kurta. This is a tradition that will never be tainted by modern trends.

To make things easier for you, we have compiled a collection of Durga Puja outfit options. Make a note of your favorites and plan your festive outing accordingly.

Garad Saree and its Importance

Laal-paar sada saree (a white saree with a red border, also known as Garad Saree) for women and dhuti-panjabi (dhoti-kurta) for men are traditional depictions of Bengali common folk.

Garad Saree - The undyed, white color of the Garad and garad-korial sarees represents purity, making them suitable for wearing at auspicious occasions like as pujas or religious ceremonies. Bengali women are seen worshiping the goddess wrapped in one of them during Durga puja.

When we think of a Bengali woman, the image of a white saree with a red border comes to mind. Whether in a TV commercial or a brand shot, women from the state are always portrayed in this manner. These Garad Sarees are also offered to older women in the house as a token of respect and prayers in some households

Garad is quite similar to Korial saree. If you are not a Bengali, you will most likely not grasp the distinction. Garad sarees are white with a crimson border as well. Unlike the Korial, however, this saree has a lighter crimson border and is strewn with flower-shaped symbols and other embellishments that give it a feminine appearance.

Garad Silk and Korial Saree

The Korial saree is the identical counterpart of the Garad saree. Identifying the distinction between the two sarees is a delicate undertaking for a non-Bengali.  In addition, Korial sarees are white with a crimson border. Every Bengali bride wears this heirloom-quality, one-of-a-kind beauty and elegance for her nuptials! Bengalis consider the Korial saree to symbolize the rebirth of women's strength from within. Also, Maa Durga bestows strength, chastity, and marital joy upon the woman who wears her symbol.

The Korial Saree is a convenient alternative to the Garad Silk Saree. West Bengal is a prosperous state that produces a variety of sarees, including Taant cotton sarees, Baluchari sarees, Dhakai Jamdani sarees, and Batik sarees, in addition to Garad silk sarees. However, there is another Bengali saree pattern that mimics the design and appearance of Garad silk sarees. It is referred to as Korial sarees. At least one Garad or Korial saree is a wardrobe staple for every Bengali woman, regardless of where she resides in the globe.

The distinctive hues of the Garad saree's border, typically scarlet and maroon, give it a lavish appearance. However, Korial saree (also known as Laal Paar sari) is indistinguishable from Garad saree with the exception of the border, which is more elaborate in design and rich red in colour. Garad sarees are distinguished from Korial sarees by the presence of floral and paisley motifs along their length, whereas Korial sarees are solid white with red fringe. Typically, Korial sarees are worn with sindoor Khela during Durga Puja.
